RE: New Truck will I regret not getting a dually

You picked a great truck for your intended purpose.
A dually is not necessary for the tongue weight of a TT. (Much different than the pin weight of a 5th wheel.)
As you said, "we will be using it as my family vehicle around town." You will not regret not having a dually when you start maneuvering and parking "around town."

RE: Additional Water Tank - MOD

Hi,
Nice work!
Just remember that 70 gallons of water is about 600 pounds. Hopefully you will have a place for all that gray water too!
Good Luck,
Fred.
I agree - nice work..but also, did you check the CCC (cargo carrying capacity of your PUP? Adding that much extra weight may push you over the rating of tires and axles..Our pop-up had a very low CCC.

RE: Roof repair

No suggestions on which way to go. Tough call expensive - but a NEW, quality installed rubber roof should last much longer than 3 years. Who gave you that information?
and by the way, welcome to the Forum.

Dan,
There should be another valve..look close to the tank on the cold water inlet.

RE: Golf Cart Tax Credit

http://blackcynic.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/loophole-770124.gif
Golfers in the US are getting a steal thanks to the stimulus plan. Golf carts are getting massive discounts, up to half or two-thirds off, and some cheaper models can be completely free.
The intention of the stimulus package was to encourage consumers to buy high-mileage cars. Those who purchase electric vehicles can get $4,200 to $5,500 in federal tax credit. Golf cart, while not a practical mean of transportation, falls under this category, thus eligible for the tax credit from government. In some states, there are similar incentive programs, which provide additional subsidies. When an average golf cart costs about $8,000 to $10,000, it means golfers can get their carts for free, paid from tax money.
The stimulus crack emerged after IRS ruled that golf carts qualify for electric car tax credit as long as they are road worthy. They need to have safety features, like side and rear mirrors and 3-point seat belts.

RE: Charging batteries in place

In GA either way should be fine. You will not have gassing issues with a battery tender type of set up because the brand we have is only 3/4 amp max.
Gale, I guess we are just going to disagree about this one.
I still strongly recommend against putting batts in a storage compartment not designed specifically for that purpose..
Read the warnings on the top of any and all automotive - deep cycle battery.

RE: Charging batteries in place

I know you didn't ask and please ignore my post if you want to..but.
You said you have a battery in a "storage compartment". Be very careful, especially if this storage compartment is not fully vented to the outside and fully sealed access to the inside of your trailer.
Batteries "gas" when charging and this gassing can be very dangerous.

RE: 2001 Jayco Kiwi 23b Owners manual

All of our trailers have come with an "owner's manual"....but in all reality, they were very genetic and not all that much help.
Very general information and lots of CYA warnings.
But, I understand that Jayco is a very customer oriented company. I'd contact them with your year and model number and see what they can do for you.

RE: Where is the water heater bypass in my fuzion?

Here is a follow-up to my previous post...
If you find that you don't have a bypass system - you can easily add one like this for about $25...any RV parts outfit, dealer or Camping World.

RE: pets in trailer

We leave ours for up to 4 hours inside the trailer and they do fine...
UNLESS it's really hot and we are depending on the A/C.
We don't trust that the power won't go out and we refuse to take the chance so we either take them with us, make other arrangements like a local kennel or we change our plans and stay at the campground.

RE: Where is the water heater bypass in my fuzion?

Water heater bypass valves will be on the back side (inside) of your water heater.
Not all water heaters come equipped from the factory with a bypass setup. They can be easily added after market.
Here is an example of what to look for...this is a 3 valve system. Some are two valves and even one valve. (note, the valves in this picture are all open..which is incorrect)

RE: Advice on a truck

Personally, I would stay away from modified, especially chipped, trucks. The reason, you ask? Because when you buy a truck that puts out over 300HP and you need to put a chip in to boost HP, what are you doing? (Not all people who chip are beating their trucks by flying off the line and various other things, I just think that it is suspect). After market air filters get my spidey sense going too.
And lifted, if done improperly, can be trouble for rocker arms and joints and balls.
I will likely be completely disagreed with, which is fine. But my personal opinion is to go with a stock truck, or as stock as possible, if it has airbags and ranchos or high quality shocks like bilsteins, then Yay!, otherwise, Nay!
I agree with this sound advice.
Great looking truck...but, it might be better suited to cruising the mall and impressing rodeo groupies.

RE: 3.73 vs 4.10 ratio

Congrats on the new truck.
Certainly the 4:10 will tow better. I doubt you will see that much improvement in mileage if you switch to the 3.73 and you will probably not recoup the $800-$1000 you spend doing it..
If it were mine I'd leave it..

The rod on the right is shot and needs replacing.
If your anode rod is basically sound, but has some "white stuff" on it, just take a wire brush, clean it off and reinstall..(use a couple of wraps of Teflon tape)

RE: Birds and SlideOut Covers

BB gun
What gets hit when you miss?
neighbors, shattered skin on your trailer, windows, hole in the awning.
I have a sense of humor and I guess you were just kidding...but I am always amazed at the folks that always suggest solving problems by shooting them.
My solution: hang some short streamers on the awning edge that flutter and flap in the wind.

We put one of those fake owls on our patio...it very shortly became their favorite perch and was covered with bird droppings.
